Inflatable floating systems for ship extension – provided by FabriQ

In collaboration with Buitink Technology, FabriQ Innovation AS offers specially developed inflatable flotation systems for demanding maritime operations, such as temporary flotation and stabilization of vessels during conversion.

Example: Temporary lifting and floating of ferry hull

In this project, the client was tasked with extending an existing ferry . The ship was split in two – the stern remained at the quay, while the bow was maneuvered out. Later, a new section was to be welded in between the two existing parts in the dock.

The challenge

• Limited space in the dock made it impossible to use traditional steel pontoons

• The hull surface was not dimensioned for the weight of the steel pontoons when hoisted.

• There was a need for a lightweight and compact alternative with high buoyancy

The solution: Inflatable floating pillows from FabriQ

We developed and dimensioned an inflatable flotation system in close collaboration with the customer. The system made it possible to keep the stern afloat at the dock while the rest of the vessel was maneuvered and adjusted.

The inflatable flotation cushions are a fast, safe and cost-effective solution in situations where traditional flotation elements are impractical or too heavy. The system is compact for transport and easy to assemble, while offering very high load-bearing capacity and impact resistance.
