Flexible sound walls
1. General
Buitink Technology develops, manufactures and installs flexible sound absorbing walls. These walls are designed and composed custom-made. However, we also offer a range of standard flexible sound walls. Different types can be combined.
Sound insulation tests have been carried out on these walls according to EN ISO 10140-2 (Measurement of airborne sound insulation).
2. Sound insulation tests
The video above shows a sound insulation test in practice. In order to achieve relevant and reliable test results, panels measuring 5x4 meters were tested.
All construction materials we use for sound absorbing walls are flame retardant according to class B-s2, d0 in EN 13501-1.
3. Standard Buitink sound walls
The following sound walls are standard in the Buitink Technology portfolio:
3.1 BTFW-12
This flexible acoustic wall is composed of fiber-reinforced canvas (closed coated fabric), an absorbent/insulating foil, acoustic wool with a thickness of 50 mm and an acoustic mesh fabric.
The nominal sound reduction index for this composition: Rw=28 .
Weight: approx. 12 kg/ m2
Panel thickness: approx. 55 mm
3.2 BTFW-7
This flexible acoustic wall is composed of fiber-reinforced canvas (closed coated fabric), an absorbent/insulating foil, acoustic wool with a thickness of 50 mm and an acoustic mesh fabric.
The nominal sound reduction index for this composition: Rw=23 .
Weight: approx. 7 kg/m 2
Panel thickness : approx. 55 mm
3.3 BTFW-18
This flexible acoustic wall is composed of fiber-reinforced fabric (closed coated fabric), an absorbent/insulating foil, acoustic wool with a thickness of 50 mm, an absorbent/insulating foil, acoustic wool with a thickness of 50 mm and fiber-reinforced fabric (closed coated fabric).
The nominal sound reduction index for this composition: Rw=26 .
Weight: approx. 7 kg/m 2
Panel thickness: approx. 110 mm
3.4 Silent AW
Alphalia Silent Aw from Serge Ferrarin is a coated fabric with a high degree of sound absorption. The material itself does not have a high degree of sound insulation, but combines perfectly with the flexible sound walls of Buitink Technology. See 3.1 for the tests carried out with Silent AW combined with an air gap of 20 mm and panel type BTFW-7.
Weight: approx. 620 g/ m2
4. Combining walls
Increased sound insulation is often achieved when an air gap is implemented between 2 soundproof walls. Buitink Technology tested combined walls according to EN ISO 10140-2 (Measurement of airborne sound insulation).
4.1 BTFW-7 / gap 200 mm / Silent AW
This configuration is composed of Buitink flexible sound wall BTFW-7, a 200 mm air gap and then a layer composed of Silent AW van Serge Ferrari.
The nominal sound reduction index for this composition: Rw=25 .
4.2 BTFW-7 / air gap 200 mm / BTFW-12
This configuration is composed of Buitink flexible sound wall BTFW-7, a 200 mm air gap and then a layer of BTFW-12.
The nominal sound reduction index for this composition: Rw=43 .
5. Overview of sound insulation values
Here is an overview of the achieved sound insulation values according to EN ISO 10140-2 for the soundproofing walls and the compositions of different types of these soundproofing walls.
