Purpose: Safety during maintenance and inspection
When working inside large vortex furnaces, which are used in the production of zinc alloys and sulfuric acid, there is a high risk of falling refractory bricks and debris. This poses a serious hazard to maintenance personnel. Buitink Technology has therefore developed an innovative and safe solution that provides full protection during inspection, cleaning and maintenance.
The challenge
Conical vortex kilns with a diameter of up to 12 meters often have an internal lining of refractory bricks. Over time, these bricks can loosen and fall down – a risk that previous safety nets have not been able to eliminate , due to large gaps between the net and the kiln wall.
Innovative solution: Inflatable safety net with tight-fitting ring
Buitink Technology has developed a groundbreaking security system consisting of:

An inflatable ring (like a donut)

A strong safety net with approximately 45 mm mesh size
The system is raised to the desired height with a winch, and using compressed air or a 230V pump, the ring is inflated and clamps tightly against the oven wall – without gaps. This creates a seamless barrier against falling objects .
Installation – step by step

Positioning
The system is raised with winches to the desired height in the oven. -
Inflation
The ring is inflated with compressed air or a 230V electric pump. -
Check
Check that the ring is evenly inflated and in close contact with the oven wall. -
Fixation
The net and ring should fit seamlessly for maximum safety.
